Interior Life

"Deep calls to Deep."
Psalm 42:7

Long ago the Psalmist announced the pilgrimage of the soul.

There is a journey of the soul that traverses the inner reaches of God where His Spirit and ours merge.
As we yield our notions and surrender our wills to the Divine dominance, we discover a realm within
that can know God intimately;
that can recognize His voice and is familiar with His ways.
It is the realm of the spirit.
Here, the language changes from mental calculations, from logic and reasoning to that which makes no sense
to the natural man in us.
Here, faith and reason no longer co-habitate.
Here, logic must yield to the insanity of faith that moves toward a ghostly figure in a storm.
But it is here alone that the spirit bursts forth like a fountain from the deep and enchants us with the possibility
that man can become one with God this side of death.

Down deep, there lies within the human soul a quiet place.

We must seek it out.  It will not stir to signal its presence.  It lies in secret folds.  It waits in silence.  It is the place in us prepared for God.  In IKings 6, the Holy Place of the temple was built in silence without the clang of hammer.  In ICorinthians 6, we are told that we are that temple now.  If God's presence is to bend our ways, if His voice is to be heard, we must be a people that seek stillness amid the cares and pleasures of this world.  We must be a people who pursue silence in the building of our temple.  We must care that God is honored in the quiet of our listening heart.  We must care that the deep of God whispers to the deep in us and we must still the clanging hammers of our soul if we are to hear.

What most affects your inner stillness?

What changes would you have to make in order to cultivate a silent listening place, both internally and externally?

What effect does your lifestyle have on cultivating an inner stillness?

Do you think this inner life is necessary for a Christian to have?  Is it necessary, or important, for you?

How might your life be different if you cultivated this interior life?  How might your walk with Christ be different?

What keeps you from going there?

Carving out a time and place to be alone with God....to be still with Him and in Him...is as simple as  5 minutes.  Try 5 minutes in silence with God three times this week and see what He may do.

The Interior Life
offerings look at the possibilities of oneness with Christ...of an inner communion in the spirit that brings to His follower a transforming experience of His Spirit deep within.  These studies address the requirements for entering into that interior realm
of love and peace.
