Brenda grew up in the mountains of western Arkansas and graduated from Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas, in 1969.
She has been writing and teaching Bible studies on the walk of discipleship for 30 years and has been a retreat and conference leader since 1982 as well as a speaker for Christian Women’s Clubs throughout the southwest for 19 years. In 1984 she co-founded Love in Action, a ministry to families in crisis in the Dallas area and in 1993 established a gang prevention center in Garland, Texas. She has been a Christian Lay Counselor since 1987, specializing in helping people heal from childhood trauma.
Dayspring Discipleship Institute, which she founded in 1997, arose from the belief that discipleship is not just a study; it is a relationship that begins when one answers the call of Christ. It is a journey that starts with the head, lodges in the heart and eventually lands in the feet, where Christ lives His life out in our flesh.
She is author of the four-volume Road to Emmaus Bible Study Series and the book, Song of Christ, Reflections on a Sacred Journey. Though her background is Baptist, her work and teachings cross all denominational lines.
Her husband, Sam, passed away in 1996. She has two children and four grandchildren.
